What’s your motivation?
In Chapter 1 of Lose Weight 4 Life, I explain how motivation is going to help you change your life. Because you cannot achieve a permanent lifestyle change with willpower alone.
In my previous book, Downsizing, I wrote about how my kids Malachy and Saoirse, were the inspiration behind my weight loss. I feared that if I continued as I was - obese with Type 2 diabetes - I would miss out on them growing up.
Since losing over 8 stones, I have discovered so many other benefits. But this was the single biggest motivation for me. Remembering this kept me going, and gave me the motivation to continue even when things got tough.
Discussion prompt
I spent a lot of time in denial about my health. I had to deconstruct all those little excuses and lies my inner voice was using to avoid sorting myself out. I’m saying these things because In the end, we have to work out our own route to a healthy life.
So, here are the starting questions about weight loss. What are your reasons for wanting to come on this journey and transform your health? What would losing weight really mean for you?
Action points
Think about the following questions:
How would losing weight impact you as an individual?
How would it change the way you feel about yourself?
How would it impact your relationships - with your spouse, friends, children, colleagues?
How would your day-to-day life change?
What about your longer-term ambitions and goals?
You could write your answers in a journal, keep a note on your phone, or if you’re a paid subscriber, participate in the discussion in our private Facebook group.
